Biography

Luiza Gragati Hakobyan, painter, was born on March 29, 1991 in Yerevan (Armenia) into a family of artists. From a young age, she was drawn to drawing, developing her love for this art form. She went on to study at the famous P. Terlemezyan School, then at the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts, and completed her education at the Saint Petersburg Academy of Painting.

Luiza also has a passion for photography, and became a member of the Union of Painters of Armenia as a photographer, even winning the presidential prize. Her personal works have been exhibited on numerous occasions in the Union of Painters of Armenia and the Union of Fine Arts. Founder and director of the "GRAGATI" art studio since 2011, Luiza opened her own gallery "Galerie de Gragati" in France in 2015. Since 2017, she has been teaching art through drawing and painting at the JAF (Armenian Youth of France) school. In 2018, two of her realistic-style paintings were exhibited in the Armenian Apostolic Cathedral in Marseille, with the blessing of the primate of the Armenian Apostolic Diocese of France.

Between 2019 and 2020, she painted the frescoes and manuscripts on the walls of the Apostolic Church, in 4 parts. In 2023, she will paint the fresco of the Sistine Madonna in the Armenian Apostolic Church of Saint-Jacques. That same year, she was named "HONOURED NATIONAL ARMENIAN PAINTER". Luiza is committed not only to developing Armenian national painting, but also to experimenting by incorporating elements of the traditional European school into her works.

Excelling in all genres of painting, she transports us through her boundless imagination with her colours and brushes. Yellow is Luiza's favourite colour. For her, this colour symbolises sunshine, light and joy, and she believes that without yellow, the world would not be as beautiful as it is today. In 2024, Luiza was appointed Armenian ambassador of the diaspora in France.
